Joël de Bruijn
Huurrecht & Corporate Law
Joël is a Dutch private law attorney (associate). Joël was admitted to the bar in 2019 and has extensive experience in conducting and managing civil litigation. His practice focuses on disputes in corporate law (including shareholder and director disputes) and lease law (commercial and residential), with significant additional experience in construction law, homeowners’ association law, contract law, intellectual property, and liability. He advises companies, tenants, landlords, homeowners’ associations, and private individuals on litigation prospects, risks, evidence, attachment, strategy, and pre-litigation procedures, and represents clients in preliminary relief proceedings, on the merits, and on appeal. Drawing on his knowledge of law and economics, he guides the preparation of legal claims not only from a legal perspective but can also provide substantive advice on the financial figures, which is often essential to the likelihood of success.
Creativity is a key part of his practice. In open discussions with clients, he draws on his expertise to offer new perspectives and approaches. As a result, clients often discover that there is more to the matter than they had realized and that their claims are substantially more extensive than initially thought.
Clients appreciate Joel’s down-to-earth approach and clear litigation strategy: identifying the core of the dispute, developing a realistic plan of action, and preparing targeted pleadings and arguments. Where possible, he seeks a pragmatic settlement; where necessary, he litigates decisively to secure his clients’ rights.
Joël completed his English-language master’s degree in International and European Trade and Investment Law at the University of Amsterdam in 2018. Previously, he earned a bachelor’s degree in Dutch Law (UvA) and in Economics and Business Economics (Erasmus University Rotterdam). During his studies, he lived in New York for seven months for an internship at the Dutch Consulate General, where he supported Dutch startups—an experience that further strengthened his understanding of the intersection of law, strategy, and entrepreneurship.
