Marten van Hasselt graduated at the University of Amsterdam having specialised in intellectual property and knowledge management. During and after his studies he practised in 3 Amsterdam based lawyer offices gaining experience in various legal areas and joined Fruytier Lawyers in Business in July 2008.
Marten focusses on general regulation and litigation thereby specifically concentrating on contract liability cases and IP strategic and commercial advice.
He deals with a wide variety of clients, from beginning entrepreneurs to renowned international firms. He enjoys working with this broad range of companies and likes to expand his “commercial know-how” by implying a collaborative approach towards the problem to be solved. For this matter I always visit personally the companies I act for, thus incorporating their vision, style and strategies into the further development of my case.
As a youngster he dreamt of becoming a pilot but this did not work out because of the required exact science knowledge, but if he could start over again he would certainly concentrate on “inventing”. Creating something new that benefits all and commercialise it. Sometimes it still crosses his mind.
Marten is also a father of three children, already interested in his profession. And as a dedicated parent he sometimes let his children join him in the office to give them an impression of what he is passionate about. I never call myself a lawyer but explain that I do a lot of writing and make a lot of phone calls and that occasionally I have to wear a long black dress to explain complicated things to other people also wearing them. They quite like the idea of this image.
Marten van Hasselt is a member of the Vereniging voor Auteursrecht (VvA) and of the Beneluxvereniging voor Merken-en Modellenrecht (BMM).
